You can’t buy happiness, but you can send it! Here are eleven ways to transfer positive energy to someone else:
1) Smile at them.
This one is both useless and underrated. It’s not going to produce any physical or measurable changes, but sending love with your eyes will instantly put them in a better mood. Never underestimate the power of a smile.
2) Listen to them talk.
People tend to like the sound of their own voices, so listen to them and let your ears absorb their knowledge before they get bored and wander off. You might also want to give them some feedback about what they said. Let your words and words alone do the talking for you.
3) Make them laugh.
Like talking, there is power in laughter. When you can make someone laugh, even better than making them smile, you are putting positive energy out there and they will like you for it. A hearty belly laugh can be the greatest thing in the world!
4) Show that you care about their problems.
This doesn’t mean that you have to agree with everything they say or do, but show that you are interested in how they feel and understand what they are saying. When you show you care, they feel like their problems are not so bad after all.
5) Offer them solutions.
You can’t solve everyone else’s problems, but you can help them focus on finding a solution by offering some advice that will help them get there. It is far more helpful to give someone a guide than to simply tell them the answer. This isn’t about telling them what to do, it is about helping them see the light at the end of the tunnel.
6) Compliment them.
Give praise where it is due, and give it often. People like to know they are good at what they do. This can be done both privately and publicly, but don’t go overboard or you will lose your effect. A little love can go a long way!
7) Be patient with them.
Everyone has a bad day, and everyone has had their fill of the ridiculous things life likes to throw at them. Don’t make their load heavier by making them feel bad about themselves. Remember that everyone has days like these, and try not to add to the problem.
8) Help them out.
When you see someone struggling or in need, offer your help. This can be as small as giving directions or an unexpected push when they are about to fall down. Doing this might be risky to you, but it will show them that you care and they will appreciate the gesture.
9) Be honest.
Honesty is key on all levels. Tell them the truth, even when it hurts their feelings. People like to know what is going on, so hold nothing back from them. Tell them when they are wrong or unappreciative of what they already do have or someone else has done for them.
10) Be yourself.
Relating to others is the best way to relate when you don’t know anyone else, and when you know people a little bit better, it is still the best way. People appreciate honesty, and they can tell if someone is fake or fake it just to make them feel better. If they absolutely hate their life, then they will take comfort from someone who tells them it could be worse; if they love their life and are fine with everything then revealing that opinion won’t really make them happy. So, be yourself and don’t apologize for it.
11) Never judge.
If you encounter someone in a negative situation, then don’t step in because they look sad or like they could use a little bit of help. When asked to help out, sometimes people are just too proud to accept it and smile off your kindness because they feel like it is not needed. It is hard to accept the idea of needing help just because you know you will be judged. But it is also hard to not help if it really is needed, and most people are not that proud.
